Harrinson's Caps is two brothers, one workbench and a stubborn idea: that a properly made cap is worth more than a fashionable one.
The Beginning
We learned the trade the slow way. George was sixteen when he cut his first panel; Frank picked up a needle the year after, mostly to prove he could. What we were taught in those first years was not fashion but proportion — how a crown should sit, how a brim should fall, why a quarter inch in the wrong place ruins an otherwise decent cap.
Nothing about it was quick, and that turned out to be the point.
Opening Our Own Door
For three decades we made caps under other people's names. We knew the work was good, but we had no say in what happened to it once it left the bench.
So we put our own name above the door. A small shop, a short list of makers we trusted, and one rule: nothing leaves here that we would not wear ourselves. That rule has cost us orders. It has never cost us a customer.
The Heart of the Craft
Every cap starts as flat cloth and a paper pattern. We cut by hand, because a blade follows the grain in a way a machine does not. We stitch by hand where it matters — the brim, the sweatband, the places that fail first when they are rushed.
We work in wool, cotton, denim and leather, and we buy them from people we can telephone. Natural cloth varies from roll to roll. We think that is a feature. It means no two caps are quite identical, and yours will age in its own way.
Made to Be Kept
A cap ought to outlast the season you bought it in. Ours are built to be worn in rain, shaped by the head that owns them, and still presentable years later.
